In Arthurian legend, the Y Draig Goch (symbolizing Wales) famously vanquishes a white dragon (symbolizing Britain) in a fierce, centuries-long battle. The red dragon has been celebrated as a symbol of the Welsh peoples relentless spirit ever since.
