Obverse

A kraken is depicted on the obverse of the 1 oz Silver Kraken Round as it attacks a ship. The Vikings were the first to record supposed encounters with a cephalopod-like creature in travels between Scandinavia and Iceland in the North Atlantic Ocean. In this design, a Viking longship has run afoul of a Kraken on its travels. The beast has emerged from the depths with more tentacles than these sailors could ever hope to fight off. It has lifted the longship out of the water and snapped its hull in half. Some of the frightened sailors have leaped on purpose, or fallen by accident, from the boat down to the icy waters below. The gold-plated finish to these rounds is featured on this side and helps to create an instant visual contrast between the design elements and the background field.

Reverse

For the reverse design, you will find the Anonymous Mint logo on the 1 oz Silver Kraken Round. The Anonymous Mint logo features an owl in front-facing relief that wears the Anonymous Mint crown with AM initials on it. The owl’s talons clutch three arrows. There are three lines of stars above its head that offer, in descending order, 6 stars, 4 stars, and 3 stars for a total of 13. 1 Ounce .999 Fine Silver is inscribed on this side along with Anonymous Mint at the bottom of the field with beads on either side.

History
