Following the arrival of Cortes in Mexico, the Aztec Empire met its swift, violent end. The Aztec Sun Stone, which historians believe was never actually finished, got buried in what is currently Mexico City. Then in 1790, it was uncovered and placed on the Mexico City Cathedral walls, where it resided for almost a century. Today, you can see this historic artifact in the National Anthropology Museum in Mexico City.

All 2 oz Aztec Sun Stone Stackers in this JM Bullion online listing will arrive to you in brand-new condition. Included with each stacker is a custom capsule for storage and display purposes. However, collectors who purchase multiples may wish to remove them from their capsules in order to stack them. These pieces include an antique finish which will help prevent tarnishing if you do decide to handle them outside of their capsules. Gloves are also recommended.

The obverse and the reverse of these 2 oz Aztec Sun Stone Silver Stackers feature the same design. The obverse is convex while the reverse is concaved to allow for stacking. The design itself consists of a beautiful replication of the original Aztec Sun Stone. In the middle of the design, there is a solar deity many believe to be Tonatiuh.

Surrounding this image are four blocks, which represent the previous four eras, or suns, of Aztec cosmology. At the time this stone was designed, the Aztecs believed they were in the fifth and final era of humankind. A ring wraps around these blocks with images from the Aztec solar calendar. This ring is accompanied by arrows pointing in the four cardinal directions.
