Prior to the formation of the United States of America, women had the right to vote in many of the colonies that would later form the United States. By 1807, most state constitutions denied women the right to vote. As early as 1878, bills were introduced in the United States Congress to give women the right to vote, but it wasnt until 1919 that a bill finally passed and it took another year for states to ratify the amendment in August 1920.
